5 QUESTIONS KIMUNYA MUST ANSWER IMMEDIATELY

This is now getting ridiculous. The secretiveness being exhibited by the government reminds me of the repulsive Armenian Saga which to date, the government has not bothered to explain to Kenyans. It is therefore not unreasonable for a prudent person to act with exceptional cynicism in regards to the Grand Regency debacle. We know from experience how the public can be taken for a ride but this time the vigilance of the governed will not let things be swept under the rag so soon or at least...so easily.

Several things need to be established independently right away.

1. What is the current appraised value of the hotel? It would help if at least 3 separate assessments were made.

2. How was the bidding process conducted and aside from the Libyans, who else put an offer and for how much?

3. If indeed the building appraised at 7B several years ago as Mr. Kilonzo alleged, what explanation could be there for it fetching only 2.9B? If for some reason its value depreciated, wouldn't it have made more sense to hold on to it as a source of revenue or to sell at a such a time when the market would be favorable, rather than getting rid of it at a seemingly throw away price?

4. With the new claims from Mr. Orengo that the sales price was 1.85B and not 2.9 as earlier thought and stated by Kimunya, can all the documents related the transaction be made public so as to clear up this matter?

5. How could the seller and the buyer be represented by the same attorneys? Isn't there an obvious conflict of interest here? Such things do not happen even on a small scale real estate transaction! Usually, there is a buyers attorney and a sellers attorney since the interest of the two are usually almost diametrically opposed. They buyer wants to get the property at the lowest price and the seller wants to fetch the most from it.
